What type of ceiling speakers should I get?
Hello everyone, I just remodeled my kitchen, which is a little more than 12x12 feet. I'm looking for some ceiling speakers but cannot make a real decision. I've been looking at Polk, Boston Acoustic, Niles, Pioneer and others. I just want music, I like a big sound, but do not have to rattle the dishes either. I was watching a pair of 6.5 "to 7 or 8" diameter max. And I'd like to stay at $ 200. Any suggestions to help me decide would be greatly appreciated.
I suggest buying a pair of 6.5 "coaxial car speakers. I've seen go Alpines for as little as $ 50 per couple. Depending on the brand you choose, you may have to get a little creative to get installed on the roof, but should not be too difficult. Definitely worth the money you can save compared to buying the speakers sold for ceiling / wall in use. Many are basically the same car as he and some are even as they are 4 ohm car speakers. The only real difference is on their inflated prices. Note that a speaker's car designed to withstand the extreme temperature environment of a car so a kitchen ceiling would be a walk in the park for car speakers. Say you find a reputable brand of speakers for $ 50 - $ 100. Then buy a 50 watt Niles in wall volume control with impedance matching circuit. It will be marketed for about $ 59.95. Now you can have a great pair of brand name speakers and be able to control the volume in the same room for less than $ 200. Of course, you have to run wires from the amplifier to control volume and then from the volume control to the speakers. Trust me, it's worth a little extra work. Do not skimp in the volume control. Be sure to get only the Niles brand. I installed all other marks as Speco, Russound, Radio Shack and not worth the money you save. The Niles are extremely reliable. Hope this helps. Good luck.
