Will film as presently constituted remain 5 years from now?
As the film goes Platter the projector, and then back to Platter a different height, for example, Top Platter then through the projector, and then in 3 Platter, is still the norm in 5 years time? Or there will be a different system in use? Using disk drives plasma or LCD films. Is this the future of cinematically-submitted Films?
I personally I hope the film projection systems based on the film will be gone in 5 years. I much prefer digital projection through the film. Film becomes very blurred by movement, so any fast pace, removing the camera, 1/2-second edited movie (Transformers, Bourne) was lost totally me - I can not tell what is happening. Digital (at least for me) seems to be much softer. There are many differences other picture, but that is the main for me. The major drawback to digital (that I know) is the inconsistency, which I imagine also exists for the cinema, but seems to be worse for digital television. I've seen some projectors digital have been perfectly calibrated and have some where the colors seem off or when the system appears to be misaligned (I imagine that only 3-chip designs). The worse in reality gave me a headache. Another advantage seems to be sound. Since I was 12 I hated the sound of Dolby Digital (compared with DTS and SDDS). Unfortunately, Dolby sound format is preferred for theaters since it is the easiest to treat - the audio track is reliable and right on the movie itself instead of DTS, where the audio is on a CD. However, I saw "The Simpsons Movie" in digital projection and was amazed to see that the Dolby sound format. I can only imagine that change to keep the sound of the movie to be stored on a hard drive made a difference. It could also be a new sound format, but whatever caused the difference does not matter, provided that the films that always sound good! Apart from quality, digital has a lot of other benefits that the image does not degrades with use, saves money by not having to produce and send the movie, etc. In all, I hope the film will soon be gone.
