Blu-Ray will lead to the extinction of the DVD players?

Personally, I prefer Blu-Ray DVD. DVD's are cheaper than makes them more suitable and accessible to today's economy. But I fear that Blu-Ray will rise above them and lead them to extonction, like HSV.

It's hard to say. Blu-ray is not catching as fast as DVD did for various reasons - including the economy. Dropped, Blu-ray finally overtake DVD, TV replace regular high-definition televisions, and people are slowly moving over to Blu-ray. However, at current rates, we are talking about some time here. Heck, the film, is still only on VHS until a few years ago - almost 15 years (!) after the DVD came out. Blu-ray is still only a couple of years, so even if you follow the DVD / VHS life cycle, we still have new movies on DVD until about 2025. However, the technology is not stopped. While Blu-ray can make slow and steady progress in the market, I doubt that before taking some kind of totally new technology arrives, catches, and causes people to jump Blu-ray frog completely. This could include things like solid state storage (or SSD, holographic, etc.), 3D-TV, or something you know nothing yet. It is certainly We may have a new breakthrough in the next decade or so, and can finish spelling the end of both DVD and Blu-ray.
