After the recent purchase of a new home, I decided to create a home theater in my basement daylight. I bought the couches, put the shutters and found to 106 "HDTV format screen. However, after everything I did not have much money left to buy a home theater projector expensive. I had a Dell projector 1800MP around that I bought to use for data presentations and so he decided to try mounting it for my theater. Here are some tips for others who might be considering doing something similar ...
1. The 1800MP comes equipped with Vertical keystone correction. This means that if you need to aim the projector up or down can set the keystone effect. However, it is equipped with horizontal keystone correction. In order to obtain a square image you need to make sure that the projector is centered on screen. Otherwise, one side of the image will be higher than the other.
2. You realize that the Dell 1800MP not come with an HDMI or a DVI port. I was able to connect the projector to my Media Center PC through a VGA cable and it looks great. However, the scenario S-Video does not seem so clear. To find a great picture to consider getting a cable that converts component video to VGA.
3. The Dell 1800MP is not very many options for zoom or resize the image. This means you will have to place the projector at the correct distance from the screen for the image to be the right size of your screen. For my 106 "diagonal 16:9 screen in HDTV format had to place the screen about 16 'away wall. Before mounting the projector on the ceiling, simply held up to find the place where the projector would fill the entire screen.
4. A lot of places will charge you an arm and a leg for a mounting bracket. However, you should be able to collect a reasonable support to an anonymous auction site online for about $ 30 including shipping. He who has the ability to turn the projector so that it can be pointed down or to the side slightly. This came in very handy when I was trying to get the projected image created with my screen.
5. The menus of the Dell 1800MP has a lot of useful options in which you will need. There is an option that will flip the image so the projector can be mounted upside down on the roof. There is also an option that will change the aspect ratio of the projected image to 16:9 if you use an area of wide-screen display. You can use these values, together with the contrast, color and brightness to adjust the image until you are happy with the image. When the room is too dark you will see black bars above and below the screen from 1800MP is a widescreen projector design. This is not really a big problem but I thought I mention it.
I am the first to admit that the Dell 1800MP is not as good as high-definition projector 1080p that I was looking at buying. However, since the Dell was only about $ 600 and I already had, I think that is an option pretty good. And it works very well with my Media Center.
