Help: How do you think of your blue ray DVD player?

My father wants to buy an HD DVD player to go along with our new TV high definition, but I'm trying to convince him to buy a PS3 (with Blue Ray). Are Blue Ray good? My dad says Blue Ray discs easily scratched and does not last long. Is this true?

Im Pro HD-DVD, but if I went to buy a Blu ray player would only be a PS3. And it scratches easier because the fact that the code is not written so deeply into the disk.
