Does anyone know how to update the firmware on a Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray?

My husband bought a Blu-ray player from eBay and Samsung have been warned to update the firmware. You have found the software online, but now can not seem to transfer successfully to a disk to install on the player. Since then we have discovered this is a common problem with this model. Anyone have any helpful advice?

They all work slightly differently, but usually there are instructions detailed in the company's website (see the 2nd link). Basically, you download the update file, unzip if necessary, and burn to a CD or DVD as an ISO image (you can not copy the file). This can be done with Nero or other commercial software (or is not a freeware ISO burning software .. see one link). Put the DVD ISO on the player and navigate through the player's menu system for maintenance (or whatever) and select firmware upgrade. Remember not to interrupt the process or turn off the player until the process is complete (may take up to 30 minutes on some machines) or you can ruin the player!
