Sony Ht-6600dp
hile the technology debuted in 2006, for many consumers to Blu-ray still feels like brand new technology. So a home-theater-in-a-(box HTIB) system as the Panasonic SC-BT200 feels like an incredible deal - Priced as low as $ 450, you get a 7.1 speaker system, plus a slim AV receiver with a Blu-ray. The biggest blow to the SC-BT200 is that competing systems offer better options streaming media, both the HT-BD1250T Samsung and LG have both LHB953 streaming Netflix and Pandora, who prefer the SC-BT200 from Amazon Video On Demand and streaming from YouTube. On the other hand, the SC-BT200 sound quality is darn good for the price, and its 7.1 configuration features two speakers rather than competition, for a slightly more immersive effect. Although we have not been tested practices with its competitors, however, (to come), the Panasonic TX seems to be the early favorite for sound quality for a very low price.
Design
Most Blu-ray HTiBs stick to the traditional 5.1 configurations, but the SC-BT200 is a complete system of 7.1, even more surprising, given its low price. There are six identical speakers used for the forward, Surround and surround back speakers. These speakers are a little larger than a can of soup, which measures 3.63 inches wide by 5 inches tall and 3.2 inches deep, and each controller has a 2.5 inch bamboo cone.
The center channel is a bit bigger (9.8 inches wide, 3.75 inches tall and 3.2 inches deep) and has two 2.5 inch drivers. The sub has a 10-inch passive radiator and 6.5-inch woofer, and its footprint is also relatively small (7.1 inches wide, 14.2 cm high and 13.4 cm high). Overall, the speakers are sufficiently insignificant that they must hide very well in most decors.
The combination receiver / Blu-ray looks pretty bland, with the front plate with a reflective black finish. Toward the bottom panel is a mechanism that reveals an SD card slot, the AutoSetup microphone input, additional playback controls and a headphone jack. A nice design touch is the withdrawal iPod dock, just give a tug on the logo of Panasonic, and a tray for the iPod is revealed. We prefer the integrated design (also found in some models of LG) to the break with springs in the BDV-E500W Sony and Samsung HT-BD1250T, causing a little more tangles.
The included remote control on the SC-BT200 is similar to the one included with the Blu-ray now and we're generally fans of design. Use playback controls often there are large blue buttons and the cross direction is surrounded by important buttons such as menu and top menu. There is an inexplicable omission, though: one button open / close for Blu-ray player. Sure, you have to leave the couch to change discs anyway, but we prefer to press the button before getting up for what is an open tray waiting when we get there.
Features
The SC-BT200 main receiver has a Blu-ray integrated and offers all the functionality of input Level Panasonic standalone player, the DMP-BD60K. The DMP-BD60K review is complete details, but the story is the SC-BT200 is fully compatible with Profile 2.0, onboard decoding for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and functionality VieraCast.
