Is there any advantage to using optical audio cable with an HDMI cable to connect a theater?

I am connecting my 1080p TV, HD DVR and Blu-ray Disc player to an AV receiver with HDMI and output connections. I'm going to run HDMI OUT Blu-ray to the receiver, HD DVR HDMI OUT on the receiver and then HDMI OUT receiver to the TV. Is there an advantage to run an optical audio cable Blu-ray and HD DVR receiver?
